As a tribute to this flower town, the hotel is named after the flower Thechi which has been in ornamental, religious and medicinal use in India for the last 4500 years. It is the first flower offered to the deities in Guruvayoor and Tirupati and is also used in the preparation of Ayurveda medicines.
The Thechi plant is a shrub native to South India and is botanically known as the Ixora coccinea flower. It is also known as ‘Flame of the Woods’, ‘Jungle Flame’, ‘Jungle Geranium’ etc. It is very resilient and adaptive and has spread to all parts of the world. There are now 300 varieties of this flower in about 17 colours, the more visible ones being Red, Pink, White, Orange etc.
